Yesterday the American Library Association (ALA) announced the winners of this year’s literary awards for children’s and young adult books, and I’m so pleased that Cynthia Lord, an online writing pal, won two (not one—two!) of them. Her wonderful debut novel, Rules, won the Schneider Family Book Award for middle grade (ages 11–13) and was named a Newbery Honor Book. Hooray, Cindy!The ALA awards, which include the Newbery, Caldecott, and Corretta Scott King Award, are some of the most distinguished prizes in children’s literature.
